The short version

WingWars is a free browser game. There's no account, no sign-up, and no password. We never ask for your email, your real name, or any payment details, and there's nothing in the game that would let you give them to us. This page covers the little we do handle.

What we collect automatically

Like any website, our server receives your IP address — it has to, or it couldn't send anything back to you. We use this in a few limited ways: to stop a single script from flooding our servers with requests, to get a rough, aggregated sense of which regions players are connecting from so we know where to add game servers, and to count how many different people play and whether they come back, without knowing who any of them are. For that last purpose we convert your address into a one-way code that can't be turned back into an address — we don't keep your actual IP address in the game's own records.

Our web server also keeps short-term technical logs, which do include IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting. These are deleted automatically after a couple of weeks.

What your browser stores

To remember things like your chosen name and bird colour, your best score, and your sound setting, the game keeps a small amount of data in your browser's own local storage. This never leaves your device, is never sent to us, and you can clear it any time through your browser's settings.

Your display name

The name you type before a match is sent to our server and shown to the other players in that match. We don't store it once the match ends. Please don't put personal information in it — yours or anyone else's.

Advertising and other services

The game page loads a typeface from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when the page loads — the same as any site using Google Fonts. Separately, we may show adverts between matches through Google AdSense. When that's switched on, Google may set cookies to serve and measure them, and if you're in the UK or EEA you'll see a consent prompt first, which you're free to decline. We use no other advertising or tracking service, and we don't run analytics on you individually. We do not sell or share personal information, and we never have.

Your rights

We rely on a legitimate interest in keeping the game running and free of abuse to process the limited information above, and on your consent where advertising cookies are used.

If you're in the UK or EEA, the GDPR gives you the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. Because the only record we keep of a visit is a one-way code that can't be traced back to you, we're generally not able to tell which record, if any, is "yours" — which also means there's very little of it to begin with. If you're in California, the same applies: we don't sell or share personal information, so there's nothing to opt out of. Either way, write to us below and we'll do what we reasonably can.

Children

WingWars isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. Since we don't collect identifying information from any player, there's nothing we hold that would single one out.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, the date at the top will change with it.
